About Us

ETV is a joint project of “Epress.am” independent journalists’ network and “Helsinki Association” human rights protection non-governmental organization, whose purpose is to objectively present the human rights situation in Armenia through media. 

The Helsinki Association was established by a group of human rights activists and registered on 11 April 1997 in the Ministry of Justice of Republic of Armenia.The Helsinki Association is committed to upholding the terms and conditions of the 1975 Helsinki Agreement on European cooperation and security, as well as all other international treaties and agreements that the Republic of Armenia has signed guaranteeing fundamental human rights to its citizens. The Helsinki Association is concerned solely with activities related directly to human rights issues and has no political, religious or national affiliation.  Members of the Helsinki Association may not be active in any political party and, according to its bylaws, any member must terminate all activities on behalf of the Helsinki Association if they join a political party.The Helsinki Association has two offices; central office in Yerevan and regional office in Vanadzor (Lori region).

On May 18, 1998 the United States and the European Union presented the Democracy and Civil Society award to the Helsinki Association in recognition of its achievements in promoting democratic values and civil society.Since 1997 there are receptions in all offices of the Helsinki Association, which provide pro bono legal services. Since 1997 the following draft laws were drafted out ‘’On Alternative Civil Service’’, ‘’On Refugee’’, ‘’On Free Access to Information’’, ‘’On Jury’’ and ‘’Ethic Norms of Jurisprudence’’.

Helsinki Association collaborates with foreign organizations such as Human Rights Watch, Moscow Helsinki Group, Belarusian Helsinki Committee, Bulgarian Helsinki Committee, and Norwegian Helsinki Committee. In November 2004 the Helsinki Association was granted membership in the International Helsinki Federation. The organization is the Armenian coordinator of the South Caucasus Network of Human Rights Organizations, and a chair of the Human Rights House-Yerevan.
